In my last newsletter and blog post I suggested that there are five predominant reasons you get out of bed in the morning and go do what you do. Here’s my take on work motives from worst to best:
- “I’ve got a gun to my head.”
- “Because I said I would.”
- “It’s just what I do.”
- “It’s my duty.”
- “It’s my calling!”
Which of these incentives most informs your work life? Which drives you? Are you satisfied with it? Would you like to reform your approach to work? How do you suppose you can move from coercion to calling in your work efforts?
I have for you, your team or your organization a tried-and-true process of discovering your real purpose…it’s called the Calling Quilt© coaching experience. No kidding, this process really works, as thousands of people I’ve coached will tell you. I think it may be time for you to invest in your future. Reach out by contacting me here. And for those of you who lead teams or organizations, consider bringing me in for a group Calling Quilt© Workshop. Your people will love you for it!
In the meantime, here are some weird-ish, unconventional questions you can ask yourself to hone in on your calling:
What is your superpower? What is it that when you do it magic happens? What are you just so good at?
What turns to gold when you touch it? Which of your actions, creations or efforts do you always knock out of the park?
What makes you a freak? What sets you apart from so many other people? What do you do that turns heads?
What makes you uber popular? People (even strangers) seem to come to you often for something. What is it?
What are your fantasies? What do you think about over and over again?
What makes you lose track of time when you are doing it? When and where are you in the flow?
Ask yourself those questions and I’ll bet your answers will point to something that begins to feel like a destiny! And, if you need help figuring it all out, reach out to me and we’ll, together, reshape your life motives to that thing you were made for!
